Equality and diversity

We are committed to ensuring equality and diversity and eliminating discrimination across all our services.

We are committed to promoting inclusivity and eliminating discrimination across our services and beyond. The values we hold around equality, human rights and inclusion are central to our policy making, service delivery, employment practices and community involvement.

The Equality Act is the main piece of equality legislation in the UK. It introduces the main equality duties public sector bodies and employers have to follow. People are protected under the act across nine protected characteristics. It also places an addition duty on NHS to:
  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the act
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
As an employer the Trust also has a duty to make reasonable adjustments for disabled staff.

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Team provides signposting to expert consultancy for services requiring advice and guidance in equality and diversity matters.
