​Who we are
Our Admiral Nurses work with families and carers of people with dementia to help them cope with the pressures of caring for someone with dementia.

Our specialist dementia nurses give expert practical, clinical and emotional support to families. Their aim is to help improve the health and wellbeing of both carers and people with dementia.

Most people with dementia are cared for by a family member or friend, who may find it difficult to cope with the changes the condition can bring. When things get challenging or difficult, our nurses work alongside people with dementia and their families, giving them one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions.

The unique dementia expertise and experience an Admiral Nurse brings is a lifeline, helping families to live more positively with dementia in the present, and to face the challenges of tomorrow with more confidence and less fear.

Who is our service for?
Our service is for carers of people living with dementia in Halton and Knowsley, such as family members and friends.

ho do we work in partnership with?
We work in partnership with Dementia UK and our nurses work closely with other health and social care professionals across Halton and Knowsley. We also provide consultancy and specialist dementia education to health and social care professionals to help improve dementia care in a range of settings.

How to access our service
Our Admiral Nurses work with carers who are registered with a Halton or Knowsley GP. Make an appointment to see your GP to find out how to access our service.

You can also contact our team directly on 0151 244 4369 to request a referral form, which we can send to you by post or by email so you can refer yourself to our service.

What will happen at your first appointment?
Our Admiral Nurses will look at the needs of both the carer and the person living with dementia to offer expert, practical, clinical and emotional support.

This can include:
  • Psychological support and relationship work to help carers understand and deal with feelings and learn ways to cope
  • Help from specialists who can help people live well with dementia
  • Sharing knowledge to help you better understand dementia and its effects
  • Experts to help you develop key communication skills and techniques which can help someone living with dementia
  • Offering advice on referrals to other services
  • Liaising with other professionals on your behalf to ensure support is coordinated
  • Helping you cope with feelings of loss and bereavement as dementia progresses
