As an NHS foundation trust, we have a Council of Governors which makes sure the interests and views of our members, as well as the wider communities we serve, are represented appropriately.

Our governors also work closely with our Trust Board and play a key role in supporting the Board to make decisions around our services and plan our priorities for the future.

Our
Council of Governors is made up of 38 governors. This includes:
Role of a governor
Together, our governors bring a wealth of expertise, experience and ideas - essential to ensuring the effective development of our services.

Our Council of Governors has statutory duties which require them to represent the interests of members and the public, and to hold our non-executive directors to account for the performance of our Trust Board.

Governors have the opportunity to talk to, and speak up for the needs, wants and ideas of our foundation trust members. They represent members' views and can influence the way the Trust delivers services to continually improve in the future. Governors' responsibilities include:
  • appointing the chairman
  • appointing the non-executive directors
  • approving the appointment of the chief executive
  • removing the chairman and non-executive directors
  • agreeing non-executive directors' terms and conditions
  • appointing and removing auditors
  • receiving the Trust's annual report and accounts
  • consulting on proposed changes and providing guidance on the future direction of the NHS foundation trust
Full details of roles and responsibilities of our Council of Governors can be found in our Trust Constitution.
