Who we are
Our service aims to promote early identification and the prevention of mental health difficulties by supporting schools, educational staff and other professionals within Wigan to develop knowledge of emotional health and mental wellbeing as well as providing direct advice and support for those who are struggling.

Each primary school, secondary school and college has a named children and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS) school link practitioner. They work with other services such as educational psychologists, school nurses and early help social services to offer:
  • Advice, information and support on all aspects of emotional health and mental wellbeing
  • Supporting schools to develop emotional resilient schools
  • Mental health promotion and intervention around topics such as keeping mentally well at exam time, how to manage transition and the effects of bullying on young people
  • Promotion of young people voice and young people mental health champions within schools
Each school link can also offer advice, support, assessment, and intervention to young people and parents within the school or the local environment if needed.

The School Link team is part of the wider Wigan CAMHS team.

Who is our service for?
The service works with all schools and colleges within Wigan area with the aim of supporting all those under 18 years old who attend them.

If you are currently home schooled or do not feel you could access support through school, you can still access mental health support through Wigan CAMHS.

Who do we work in partnership with?
The team believes that multi agency working is the best way to support young people. Some of the other services we work with as well as schools are educational services, social services, school nurses, health services, voluntary and third sector services, and GPs.

If you are a service working in Wigan supporting young people's physical and mental wellbeing, please get in touch and let's see how we could work together.

How to access our service
For young people our service can be accessed through your school or college, who can support you and your parents to meet with up with the link work at a time that is suitable for you.

If you are a school, advice and support can be accessed through consultation with your link worker, this can be requested through our simple, online School Link referral form. Alternatively, you can get advice through your service delivery footprint huddle meeting which your link worker will attend fortnightly or by calling Wigan CAMHS on 01942 775 400.
