Our Involvement Scheme

We are passionate about involving service users and carers in the design and delivery of our services.

Our Involvement Scheme enables service users and carers to be involved in the design, development, delivery and improvement of our services. This covers all aspects of our business, from individuals being involved in their care plans, to service users and carers sitting on the Trust Board.

We are proud of our achievements in involving service users and carers, but are always looking for ways to involve volunteers further.

Involvement
We value the experience and knowledge of volunteers and offer a range of opportunities to involve them in Trust business. Our scheme aims to make sure as many people as possible have access to our involvement opportunities.

Payment
As well as paying all reasonable out of pocket expenses, we offer a payment of up to £10 an hour for certain agreed activities. It is a volunteer's own choice whether or not to accept payments or just to receive out of pocket expenses.

Support
Everyone involved in the scheme receives support, advice and appropriate training to help them be fully involved. Initially this is from the coordinator and is supplemented by staff working alongside the volunteer.

Health and safety
While involved in Trust business, volunteers are expected to adhere to the Trust's health and safety policies. These are made available to all volunteers.

Foundation trust
We encourage all Involvement Scheme members to become gold members of our foundation trust. This does not commit volunteers to anything, but allows them an opportunity to become involved with the Trust at a strategic level. Involvement opportunities
We involve service users, carers and members of the public in a wide range of activities, including:
  • Attending business meetings and sitting on committees
  • Interviewing staff as part of the recruitment process
  • Helping to design and deliver training for staff
  • Being part of task and finish groups
  • Carrying out audits and reviews of our services
  • Working in partnership with staff to deliver services
Honorary contract
Every member of the Involvement Scheme signs an honorary contract. This states the importance the Trust places on confidentiality and confirms there is no contract of employment between any volunteer and the Trust.

Disclosure Barring Service (formerly Criminal Records Bureau - CRB)
Everyone who registers on the scheme will be required to have a check to see if they have a previous criminal record. It is important to note that previous convictions will not necessarily prevent someone from being involved. A risk assessment will be carried out and each person will be considered on an individual basis.

ID badge
Volunteers are given a standard Trust ID badge which identifies them as a member of the Involvement Scheme.

Database
Volunteers' details are kept on a secure database.
