Liaison mental health training
We are delighted to be working in partnership with Health Education England
and the University of Salford
to offer a brand-new, first-of-its-kind training programme for healthcare professionals working in A&E liaison mental health services across the North West and are currently looking for delegates to register their interest in attending.
The fully-funded programme is open to all clinical staff working within liaison mental health services in A&E departments and acute hospitals across Cheshire, South Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside and will be delivered by our Trust and the University of Salford.
The training aims to upskill staff and standardise service delivery to help ensure patients receive the best possible care to meet all their physical and mental health needs.
Cohorts will be beginning in September 2018, November 2018 and January 2019, and training will be held at the University of Salford at their purpose-built counselling and psychotherapy training facilities, and clinical simulation suite
The course syllabus is currently under development but topics covered will include self-harm, suicide, dementia, psychosis, personality disorder, learning disabilities and substance misuse. The course will involve five days of face-to-face learning and five days of online distance learning.
Centre of Expertise in Personality Disorder
Our award-winning Centre of Expertise in Personality Disorder delivers high-quality training around personality disorder, aimed at health professionals and other people who come into contact with people with a personality disorder in their jobs, with a wide range of courses to educate, raise awareness and help your staff deliver better care for people with a personality disorder.
The Centre of Expertise in Personality Disorder comprises a varied and skilled team of experts by experience (people who have lived or carer experience of personality disorder) and experts by occupation (people who have experience of working with people with a personality disorder), who bring their valuable skills, knowledge and experiences together to deliver high-quality training packages.
Within the centre, co-production is at the heart of all of our developments and achievements. We strongly believe that collaboration between a person with lived or carer experience of a personality disorder and a person with experience of working with people with a personality disorder is essential to recovery.
We deliver most of our training courses from our Trust's Education Centre at Hollins Park Hospital in Warrington, Cheshire but we can be flexible and are also able to visit you at your organisation to deliver the training if this suits you better.
Since the inception of the Personality Disorder Hub in 2009 and the Wigan Multi-Agency Personality Disorder Strategy in 2010, we have achieved a huge amount and we are extremely proud of everything we have accomplished in such a short space of time. Some of our key achievements include:
Training more than 1,000 people in the Knowledge Understanding Framework (Institute of Mental Health and Department of Health’s personality disorder awareness training)
Training more than 1,000 people in our own bespoke personality disorder training programmes
Winning a prestigious Nursing Times Award in the ‘Mental Health’ category in 2011
Being a finalist at the prestigious Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards in 2012 in the ‘Innovation in Mental Health’ category
Publishing papers in peer review journals which demonstrate the effectiveness of our training
