Who we are
Changes is a FREE weight management programme for adults in Knowsley.
Our expert team of registered dietitians provide practical support and advice to help you make positive lifestyle changes to lose weight and improve your health and wellbeing.
Our simple, easy-to-follow programme is tailored to meet your individual needs and work around your lifestyle and you'll be able to attend appointments in a choice of venues across Knowsley, including Halewood, Huyton, Kirkby, Prescot and Whiston.
Who is our service for?
The service is for anyone age 16 and over living in Knowsley or registered with a Knowsley GP, with a body mass index (BMI) of 40 and over, or a BMI of 35-40 if you also have other health problems, such as diabetes and heart disease. Why should you join Changes?
Changes is run by our friendly team of expert dietitians - the only professionals qualified to give advice around diet and nutrition - and lifestyle advisors.
Changes provides simple but effective healthy eating advice and diet plans which are tailored to meet your individual needs, including cheap but tasty healthy meal ideas and recipes.
You can take advantage of supportive group sessions with other people from your local area, run by our lifestyle advisors, and cognitive behavioural therapy if you need any help changing unhelpful thoughts or behaviour patterns around food and eating.
We can also offer other options to help you lose weight if you need any extra support, such as weight loss medication, meal replacement plans and bariatric surgery, but we'll always involve you in any decisions to make sure you are happy with your weight management plan.
Many people who come to Changes find they have improved health and wellbeing as a result of the programme, such as reduced symptoms of any physical health problems they have, having more energy and generally feeling better in themselves.
Members of Changes can also take advantage of our closed, members-only Facebook group, which is a safe and supportive space where you can share motivational tips and ask for advice from other members. The group is moderated by our expert dietitians, who are also on-hand to give advice and answer any questions you might have. How to access our service
If you'd like to join Changes weight management programme, make an appointment to see your GP or another health professional (such as a midwife or health visitor) who will be able to make a referral for you, or call us directly on 0151 290 4335.
You can also self-refer for a range of healthy lifestyle support services via the Healthy Knowsley Service by calling the Healthy Knowsley Hub 0800 0731 202.
What will happen at your first appointment?
Your first appointment will be a 45 minute assessment with one of our expert dietitians. This will be very informal and our dietitian will be there to listen and understand more about you, including your lifestyle, what you eat, what activities you like to do and what you'd like to get out of the programme. We will ask you lots of questions but one thing we will never do is judge.
After this, we'll then agree your weight management plan with you, which will give you to tools and support you need to lose weight healthily and keep it off. Depending on your individual needs, this plan could include:
A tailored healthy eating plan
Weight loss medication
Meal replacement plan
Low energy diet
One-to-one cognitive behavioural therapy, to help you change unhelpful thoughts and behaviours around eating, such as comfort eating or boredom eating
Behaviour change groups
Healthy eating groups
Healthy walking groups
