Who we are
We are part of the integrated 0-19 team working in conjunction with the School Health Team

Our health visitors are registered nurses or midwives who have who have a specialised qualification in the care and development of pre-school children. The health visiting team works in accordance with the Healthy Child Programme, which is a national programme aimed at promoting health and wellbeing for all children.

Our aim is to support and guide you through the early years of your parenting journey and help you develop a close and loving relationship with your child. 

We are also able prescribe treatments for common childhood ailments such as thrush, nappy rash and dry skin.

Which team covers where?
Sefton has seven geographical 0-19 teams based in five office sites. Below are details of which team covers which area or ward. Each Health Visiting Team has responsibility for all pre-school children and their families who live in the geographical area of Sefton referred to below. Please use this information to identify which Sefton ward the child/children lives in and contact the relevant team using the telephone number and/or address provided. 
  • Bootle 0-19 covers Derby, Linacre and Litherland wards.
  • Feelgood 0-19 covers Ford, Netherton and Orrell and St Oswald wards.
  • Formby 0-19 covers Ainsdale, Harrington and Ravenmeols wards. 
  • Hampton Road 0-19 covers Birkdale, Dukes and Kew wards. 
  • Hoghton Street 0-19 covers Cambridge, Meols and Norwood wards. 
  • Maghull 0-19 covers Molyneux, Park and Sudell wards.
  • Prince Street 0-19 covers Blundellsands, Church, Manor and Victoria wards.

Who is the service for?
Our health visitors provide an essential service to children and families within local communities, to promote and improve health whilst reducing health inequalities.

Child health practitioners and nursery nurses support the health visitors in delivering this service.

Our health visitors provide a holistic approach to support parents in the promotion of health and wellbeing of all pre-school aged children across Sefton. All families receive this service which begins in the months before your first child is born and continues until your child starts school. 

What we do?
Health Visitors work within the 0-19 Service to deliver the National Healthy Child Programme and offer a universal service to all. As part of this we will contact you to undertake the following visits:
  • Antenatal contact from 28 weeks of pregnancy
  • Birth contact 10-14 days after delivery
  • 6-8 week review
  • 9-12 months review
  • 2 -2½ year review
We can support you with:
  • Transition to parenthood
  • Maternal emotional health
  • Infant feeding
  • Healthy weight
  • Managing minor illness and accident prevention
  • Preparing for school 
In addition, we are always here to listen to any additional concerns you may have about yourself or your child and can provide extra support to assist you in overcoming these.

For well babies we offer weekly clinics where you can get your baby weighed or speak to a health visitor for advice.
 
When your child starts reception class their care will transfer to the school nursing service.

Who do we work in partnership with?
The team works closely with midwives, school nurses, children's centres, GPs, social care and voluntary services.
