John became Chief Operating Officer in October 2018, having joined the Trust Board as Director of Transformation and Partnership in July 2018. In March 2020, he took on the role of Deputy Chief Executive in addition to his Chief Operating Officer post.

He has responsibility for operational services, Business Development and Estates. As Chief Operating Officer, John works closely with the Chief Nurse and Executive Director of Quality and Governance and the Medical Director to ensure we deliver safe and effective services.

With a background in the third sector – mainly in the field of new business and commercial development – John joined our Trust in 2009. He held a number of operational roles at assistant director and divisional director-level before becoming Director of Operations and Integration until 2015.
John then spent some time outside the Trust as Director of Operations for England at one of England's largest third sector mental health, learning disability and older people's charities, Community Integrated Care.
Returning to the Trust as Director of Business Development in 2016, he led the Trust's work to significantly grow the range of services we deliver and the geographic footprint we cover, as well as develop strong partnerships with NHS, social care, independent and third sector partners.
John is a trustee of Making Space, a registered national charity providing health and social care services in the heart of local communities.
