Older People's Mental Health Inpatient Services

Who we are
Parsonage Unit is our older people's mental health inpatient unit at Atherleigh Park in Leigh. The ward provides mental health support for older people who have mental health problems like depression and schizophrenia.

The ward environment has been specially designed to meet the needs of older adults who have mental health problems and physical frailties associated with old age. Our team is also experienced in supporting older adults with a higher level of physical health needs, in addition to caring for their mental health.

Who is our service for?
We support people age 65 and over living in Halton, Knowsley, St Helens, Warrington and Wigan who have a mental health problem and physical health conditions or frailties which need extra support. From time-to-time, we also look after people under the age of 65 who have mental health problems and higher levels of physical health needs, which would not be met as effectively by our adults' inpatient wards.

How to access our service
As Parsonage Unit is a specialist service, you can't self-refer to the unit.

If you are experiencing mental health problems, make an appointment to see your GP. They will work with you to decide which service would be best able to meet your needs and if appropriate, they will be able to refer you to your local older people's community mental health team for an assessment.

If you are experiencing mental health crisis and need urgent help, please visit the 'help in a crisis' page on our website.

Where else do we provide the service?
Parsonage Unit is based at Atherleigh Park in Leigh but can be accessed by service users from Halton, Knowsley, St Helens, Warrington and Wigan.
