Stress is our body’s natural survival strategy to keep us safe, if our stress response is triggered too often in day-to-day life, it can end up having a knock-on effect on our mental health and increase your risk of developing anxiety, depression and other mental health problems.
When it comes to stress, stigma makes things worse, especially if the stress is causing someone to feel anxious or depressed too.
If someone is feeling overwhelmed with stress and they are worried about being judged or labelled because of it, it can:
• Stop the person from getting help
• Make them feel embarrassed or ashamed
• Make it even harder to cope with the stress they are experiencing
